WildFlowers Australia Farm Visit: New South Wales

The Farm Visit: NSW will be held on the South West Slopes at the farm of Derek and Sus Bush.  Derek and Sus established Bush Roses in 1984 where they predominantly grew roses for cut flowers. In 2018, an infestation of western flower thrips drove them to diversify into Australian natives, annual and perennial plants.  Five years down the track they have a sizeable planting of Australian natives grown in the field, in greenhouses, in soil and trialling some native plants hydroponically.

Peter Ollerenshaw, an expert in propagation with 20-years’ experience at the Australian National Botanic Gardens and owner of Bywong Nursery with his wife Jennifer, has been an integral part of Derek and Sus’s diversification, helping them decide what to grow where.  He will provide a talk on his development work with some genera of Australian Native plants for the past 30 years, some of which will be showcased during the tour.
