WildFlowers Australia is offering a packed 2-day event in the Perth area for wildflower growers and enthusiasts. The event offers a look into the wildflower industry in Western Australia at a spectacular time of year when wildflowers will be blooming in all their glory.
Day one includes a morning tour of the facilities of Wafex, Australia’s leading flower company. Their West Swan facility acts as the receival centre for product from farms across Western Australia. From here, flowers are prepared and despatched across the world. The afternoon features a visit to the stunning Kings Park and Botanic Garden including a rare opportunity to see the breeding and development area overseen by Digby Growns, Senior Plant Breeder at the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority and the renowned breeder of numerous varieties of kangaroo paw, Geraldton wax and Boronia.
Day two includes visits to two farms, the family-run Plantation Wildflowers and the larger Harris Farm. Plantation Wildflowers grows a range of crops including Isopogon, Macropidia (the green and black kangaroo paw), Banksias and waxflowers, including some unusual hybrids developed on the farm to suit the local climate. Harris Farm is Wafex’s large waxflower plantation and hosts the Helix Australia breeding and trial crops. Along with waxflower, the farm produces Banksia, Regelia, Woolly Bush and Boronia. It has been an established flower farm for more than 20 years. The combination of the two farms will provide the chance to view a range of stunning wildflowers and give insights into different operations.
