WildFlowers Australia Events 2024
WFA had a super busy year in 2024! A substantial program of events educated growers, florists and the industry in general about wildflowers (including the difference between natives and South African). These were designed to provide value to WFA members and attract new members, appealing especially to new growers who had formed nearly half the delegate base at the 2023 National Wildflower Conference in Echuca.
2024 National Floristry Competition
For our 2024 student competition, students designed and made 2 pieces, a hand tied bunch and a wearable item (such as a corsage, buttonhole/boutonniere, or a hairpiece). To add a further dimension to their work, they created a display to stage their entries.
Certificate III students from TAFE and private floristry colleges which are Registered Training Organizations across Australia participated through their colleges.
WildFlowers Go West!
Our Walking on the Wildside and associated grower events held in September in the Perth area were a resounding success! Growers and florists from several states joined local industry members to see and learn more about wildflowers.
New Grower’s Webinar Series
WildFlowers Australia’s New Grower’s Webinar series kicked off with Episode 1, featuring Sus Bush speaking with Craig Scott about the wildflower business in Australia including some of its history, the variety and locations of growers and the various markets.
A bunch for the birds and the bees
A highlight from the recent Wildflowers Australia conference in Echuca included a day spent touring local flower farms. A visit to Zoe’s Little Flower Farm in Gunbower highlighted how commercially farmed flowers and foliage can ultimately benefit the local wildlife and local environment.
